She learned the science of ayurveda from her gurus, and set up Biotique, a revolutionary brand: Meet the Beauty Queen, Vinita Jain
She is better known as “Queen of Herbs”, the journey of the founder of Biotique, Vinita Jain’s goes back to the 90s. A time when there were hardly any women entrepreneurs in the country. Ever since she was a child, she had an inclination towards the learning of medicinal plants and herbs that could magically enhance the body. Jain grew up in Kolkata, and she credits the her deep learning in ayurveda to her frequent visit to grandparents’ plantations in the hills of Assam and Darjeeling. She lived around practitioners of this ancient system of medicine. She says that she learnt her first lessons from the “Himalayan gurus” who dwelt in the caves of her family’s tea estates.
Perhaps, luckily, she had all the support from her family to start her own company, in 1992. Jain, started her venture. Jain started Biotique with her personal savings, and till now she claims her company is a no debt organisation. The products we were selling, back then, were very new to the market. From their efficacy to their smell, everything that Biotique was producing was hence met with absolute success. The brand uses cold extraction process, which preserves the active ingredients of the product, and it combines Ayurveda with biotechnology, one of its other unique selling propositions. Before opening to the Indian market, Biotique opened its doors to the Swiss one. There is a research and development wing in the Alpine country, and also a team that coordinates the brand’s global exports. Biotique set up its first retail store in Khan Market, New Delhi.
From having one store, today they have 3,000 standalone stores; more than 2,000 stores in-stores (pan-India) and are selling at more than 200,000 multi-brand outlets. Jain, is now, planning to double this number by 2020. They are also planning and also have started to work on opening at least 100 company-owned retail outlets by the next fiscal. Biotique aims to reach up to 75 Indian cities with deep penetration in Tier I and Tier III cities.
Jain has always believed in staying focussed and determined, and her strong passion towards building her brand has only helped her in making a mark in the beauty industry.
